Accessibility Minute - Assistive Technology Tips and Tricks for Everyone

Dec 24, 2021

Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs!

In America, 70% of adults report that they obtain insufficient sleep at least one night a month, and 11% report insufficient sleep every night.  If you or a loved one experiences sleep issues, check out Dodow!

According to Dodow's website, it is a simple metronome-like device with a light system that "combines meditation, yoga, and behavioral cognitive therapy... it aims to work quickly, effectively, and naturally to counteract the effects of stress that are detrimental to sleep."

Using the device is as easy as 1, 2, 3.  Simply tap the touch-sensitive surface for the 8-minute mode or twice for the 20-minute mode.  Begin inhaling as the blue light expands, then exhaling when the light retracts.  At this point, users will be "in the ideal body state to fall asleep naturally."

Other features include:

Inspired by the science of cardiac coherence, which is a stress and emotion management tool used by fighter pilots and more
The French Cardiology Federation recognizes cardiac coherence as one of the "simplest and most effective techniques" to fight against anxiety
For individuals six and up!
The device will automatically shut off after the exercise is complete.
