Accessibility Minute - Assistive Technology Tips and Tricks for Everyone

Nov 4, 2022

Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing, or other special needs!

There are several augmentative and alternative communication devices available, but if you’re looking for an eye gaze option, check out the MegaBee Eye Pointing Communication Tablet.

The MegaBee assistive communication tablet is a lower-tech eye-pointing device compared to other computer systems.  While using the device, the caregiver tracks a patient’s eye movement and uses eye gaze to determine letter locations, which are then displayed on the LCD screen below.

For example: If you were looking for the letter ‘A’ you would first be looking at the color block white because that is where the letter ‘A’ is located. The caregiver then presses the white button. Then you would look at the color block blue because the letter ‘A’ is blue. The caregiver then presses the blue button the letter ‘A’ appears on the LCD screen at the bottom of the device.

Features of the MegaBee Eye Pointing Communication Tablet include:

  • Easy-to-use out of the box for both speaker and listener
  • Dual screens accommodate 20 characters in 2 lines
  • 260 custom abbreviations available
  • Bluetooth PC connectivity allows large, remote display and text storage options
  • Weighs approximately 2 pounds
  • And more!
