Accessibility Minute - Assistive Technology Tips and Tricks for Everyone

Oct 7, 2022

Hey there!

Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools, and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing, or other special needs!

Looking for an app for an individual with low vision?  Check out Google Lookout. Google Lookout is an Android App that uses Google’s Artificial Intelligence toolkit to assist individuals, especially those who are blind or visually impaired.

Lookout has six modes that include:

• Images mode - describes the contents of an image,
• Text mode - quickly skim text and hear it read aloud

• Food labels mode - quickly identify packaged foods by their label

• Document Mode - scan a whole page of text
• Currency mode - identify money quickly and reliably

• Explore mode – beta feature that offers information about objects in your environment
