286-5-18-18 Bestic - Mealtime independence
Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look
at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to
help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or
other special needs!
A number of individuals with cerebral palsy, ALS, muscular
dystrophy, and more are unable to feed themselves
independently. They then rely on others to help feed
them. There is now an assistive eating device, called Bestic,
that gives individuals back their independence during
mealtimes.
The button on the device can be controlled with any part of
your body such as your knee, head, or chin. Once it's set up,
you simply press the button to guide the spoon to your mouth.
Features of Bestic include:
- Portable
- Runs approximately 5 hours on a full charge
- USB and 3.5 mm jack plug inputs
- Spoon height and depth are customizable to each individual
- FDA-registered Medical Deivce
- Weighs 4.4 pounds
