Hey
there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look
at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices
designed to help people who have difficulties with vision,
mobility, hearing or other special needs!
Nearly 20 years ago, David Niemeijer began developing
assistive technology to help a friend with a spinal cord injury
access his computer. Shortly after, David founded
AssistiveWare, a leading innovator of assistive technology software
for iOS and Mac users. The company's flagship product,
Proloquo2Go, is an award-winning AAC application for iOS devices,
that provides a "voice" for individuals who have trouble
communicating.
The
company states on their
brochure: "We design Assistive
Technology solutions that enable people to speak, communicate,
share their world, and participate in their communities. To
achieve our goals, we collaborate and connect directly with the
therapists, parents, and adult users of our applications."
