Hey there! Welcome to Accessibility Minute, your weekly look at Assistive Technology, those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs.
I’ve written and talked about several Amazon Alexa devices over the years as they can help improve one’s independence. Amazon is now offering a new subscription service, coined Alexa Together, that can help increase independence while helping you care for loved ones.
According to Amazon’s description, “Alexa Together is a new way to provide support for loved ones, keeping you together even when you’re apart.” Alexa Together features activity alerts and an activity feed, so you can get an idea of what your loved one is doing. This helps keep you in the loop while keeping them independent.
Additionally, this service includes a “professionally staffed” 24/7 Urgent Response team that your loved one can reach by simply saying, “Alexa, call for help.” Or, if a compatible device detects a fall, Alexa will ask if your loved one wants to connect to Urgent Response and alert you of the call.
